Budapest Food Stops: Breakfast at Läget and Dinner at Tutto

Two meals stayed with us from our trip to Budapest: a bakery breakfast and a quiet evening with pasta and cocktails, both in the city centre.

Here is what we ordered, what it cost us, and what to know before you go.

The dining room and its Christmas tree.

Breakfast at Läget

Läget is a bakery café at Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 49. Friends had recommended it for breakfast, so we took the tram into the centre and went straight there. The pastry display looked so good that I wanted everything on it.

It was busy when we arrived, and there aren’t many places to sit, so a lot of people were taking their order away. If you hope to linger, it’s worth knowing that seats are limited.

I had a ham and cheese croissant and a pain au chocolat with a cappuccino. The croissant was so flaky and the coffee was perfect, and I’d absolutely recommend that breakfast. My husband had the Napoli salami sandwich, which we both thought was good, and a cinnamon bun with his cappuccino.

Dinner at Tutto

I found Tutto on TikTok and fell for the interior photos, so it went straight onto our list. It’s at Nagymező u. 38. We booked a table through SevenRooms on the restaurant’s website. I can’t say whether you could walk in without one.

We went in the evening and it wasn’t crowded at all. The atmosphere was calm and pleasant, the kind of place where you can sit, relax and lose track of time. Fresh bread arrived before the food, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping, at no charge. The restaurant is open from 12:00 to 23:30 Sunday to Thursday and until 1:00 on Friday and Saturday (official site).

What we ordered at Tutto, and what it cost

I ordered the Pasta Primavera, my husband had the Parmesan Grilled Chicken Breast, and we shared Dirty Fries. The cocktails are named after celebrities, which I loved: I had the Sophia Loren, which cost about 5,000 Ft. My husband had a lemonade. We finished with Nonna’s XXL Tiramisu and the NYC Cheesecake, which we shared. Everything was tasty.

  • Pasta Primavera 4,200 Ft, Parmesan Grilled Chicken Breast 5,500 Ft, Dirty Fries 2,500 Ft.
  • Nonna’s XXL Tiramisu and NYC Cheesecake were 3,000 Ft each.
  • With my cocktail, dinner came to roughly 23,000 Ft, plus the lemonade. Those are the prices on the menu we photographed.

At Läget, our breakfast came to about 8,200 Ft: ham and cheese croissant 1,750 Ft, pain au chocolat 1,750 Ft, cinnamon bun 1,000 Ft, Napoli salami sandwich 1,490 Ft, and cappuccinos at 1,100 Ft each.

On the same trip we also spent time at the Christmas market and inside St Stephen’s Basilica.
