Badeschloss Bad Gastein Review: Our Stay in a Junior Suite

My husband and I spent four nights at Badeschloss in Bad Gastein in December 2025, staying in a junior suite in the hotel’s old building, with breakfast and spa access included in our booking.

Here’s what we liked about our room, what stood out at breakfast and the spa, and the practical details worth knowing before a stay, from parking to getting to the ski lift.

Our junior suite, Into the Green.

Our junior suite: Into the Green

Room 36 was called Into the Green. It was small, bright and comfortable, with finishes that looked newly refurbished.

Light came through a window behind the bed and another in the bathroom. The large bathroom window was my favourite detail. I’d always wanted a bathroom like that. I also liked the shower tiles and the scent of the amenities.

There was enough space for our clothes and belongings, and the room had cups, glasses, tea and coffee capsules.

The bed was comfortable, and I didn’t feel cold at night. Although the waterfall was so close to the hotel, I couldn’t hear it from our room. I didn’t hear the neighbours either. My husband was happy with the room too.

Breakfast: a few unexpected finds

Breakfast had a few surprises. Chia pudding caught my eye (I don’t often see it at hotel breakfasts), and the guacamole was an unexpected addition that I actually liked.

There was plenty to choose from beyond those two: pancakes with apple purée, vanilla sauce and maple syrup, toppings for yogurt bowls, and several kinds of milk, including vegan options. The breakfast room felt cozy, and the coffee was good too, with two machines where we could make our own.

There was also a wide choice of teas and a self-service juice station.

Time at the spa with friends

My husband and I visited the hotel’s Alpine Swim Club with our friends. There weren’t many people when we went, and we enjoyed relaxing there together.

There was a hammam and other saunas, with mountain views through the windows on the upper floors. The pool was on the top floor, and there was also a bar within the spa area.

Coffee at the hotel bar

After lunch, we went to the hotel bar for coffee. Finding a table for our group was easy: there were plenty of places to sit.

I looked around while our coffee was brought over. Books, magazines and encyclopedias gave me plenty to browse, and there were puzzles and board games available too. The space felt cozy, a pleasant place to spend some time together over coffee.

Staying by the waterfall

Badeschloss is on Straubingerplatz, right beside Bad Gastein’s waterfall. The waterfall looked stunning when we went out to explore, and being so close to it was a memorable part of the location.

The practical consideration is the terrain. Bad Gastein is hilly: a place that looks nearby on a map may still involve an uphill walk. That matters when you’re planning a ski morning as well as a stroll around town.

Parking

The garage we used was about five minutes from the hotel on foot. There were plenty of spaces during our stay, though the ceilings were low. If you’re arriving in a tall vehicle, confirm the clearance and parking arrangements before you travel.

Getting to Stubnerkogelbahn

On our ski day, we drove together to the lower station of Stubnerkogelbahn to save some energy. There was a large parking area beside the lift.

After skiing, I walked back to the hotel. The downhill walk took me about fifteen minutes. I estimated the journey in the other direction at around twenty minutes, mostly uphill, rather than timing that outward walk myself.

If you’re travelling without a car, bus 555 is an option to investigate. It serves Wasserfall and Bad Gastein Bahnhof, beside the Stubnerkogel valley station. Check the operator’s timetable for your dates. Gastein’s information on the lift parking area provides further context.

Before you book

Our experience was of one particular junior suite and booking in December 2025. For your stay, a few details are worth confirming:

  • The room: the hotel lists several junior-suite variants. Check the layout and view of the specific option you’re booking.
  • What’s included: confirm breakfast, spa access and the availability of the facilities you want.
  • Getting around: consider the hills, your plans for reaching the lift, and parking if you’re bringing a car.

Would we recommend it?

We enjoyed our stay: the room was comfortable and quiet, breakfast offered plenty of choice, and we had space to relax with friends at the spa and bar.

Badeschloss could suit couples or friends who want to combine time in Bad Gastein with a spa visit and skiing. The main practical consideration is getting around the hills, particularly on the way to the lift. For our four nights, we were happy with the hotel, and the bathroom window remains my favourite detail of our suite.
